Since 2006, he has been working as a football pundit in Singapore with ESPN Star Sports. McMahon’s last post as a manager was at Australian A-League side Perth Glory in 2005 but he left midway through the season amid media criticism of his coaching style and accusations of nepotism when he signed his son for the club. He left the club at the end of the 2003-04 season after a row with senior management over funds. He also represented England during this period of his career making 17 appearances and featuring in the 1990 FIFA World Cup.Īfter leaving his player-manager post at Swindon by mutual consent in 1998, McMahon returned to football management two years later when he joined Blackpool where he enjoyed many highs and lows during a four-year spell including two Football League Trophy wins, a relegation and a promotion. Joining Liverpool in 1985 as a replacement for Graeme Souness, McMahon won a number of trophies in his six years at Anfield including three First Division titles and two FA Cup wins before making the move to City. Probably remembered more for his Liverpool career in the 1980’s than his time spent in the Premier League with Manchester City, Steve McMahon retired from playing in 1998 after four years as player-manager of Swindon Town.
